The new Banbury Museum opened in September 2002. To coincide with the first full weekend of the museum opening to the public, and the Banbury Canal Festival, Oxfordshire 2000 was commissioned by Cherwell District Council to run workshops in and around the museum. Working outdoors in a space by the newly renovated dry dock with students from local schools and members of the public at a 'drop-in' banner-making workshop, the artists created unusual banners under the theme of WaterWays. The banners were created with plastics and other materials over the course of the weekend and subsequently displayed in the Museum.

The storytelling performances and workshops celebrated the opening of the new canal-side café space and was one of the opening performance vents for the museum. People were encouraged to share their stories of the history of the WaterWays with the storytellers, to begin to form the basis of an archive about the local canal history.

The Oxford Drum Troupe performed with other musicians outside the Museum to celebrate the Banbury Canal Festival which took place the same weekend.
